HUSH They Can Hear Hotwire Cars: Mini-Game Timing and Driving Controls
In HUSH: They can hear, hotwire cars by walking up to vehicles marked with the HOTWIRE prompt and stopping the rotating ring pointer inside the green target zone with Space. Starting the engine requires no petrol and enables fast transit across the map.

Vehicle Entry Prompts and Requirements
Approaching a vehicle in the open world displays an interaction prompt indicating how the vehicle starts. Vehicles in the town do not all share the same activation sequence.
| Vehicle Prompt | Activation Method | Noise and Requirement Profile |
|---|---|---|
| HOTWIRE | Press Space inside the green zone on the ring | Raises decibels while starting; requires no ignition key or petrol |
| [F] BREAK IN | Press F to force open the cabin | Yields cabin keys directly; skips the timing mini-game |
A blue pickup truck observed in town testing prompted for the hotwire procedure directly. In contrast, a yellow transport van displayed the break-in prompt, allowing entry and granting keys without requiring the ring mini-game. Check the floating prompt on each vehicle rather than relying on vehicle models to predict ignition type.
How the Hotwire Mini-Game Works
Interacting with a car displaying the hotwire prompt triggers a circular interface on your screen.
- Walk directly up to the driver side of the vehicle until the HOTWIRE interaction appears.
- Initiate the interaction to bring up the circular dial with a rotating pointer and a highlighted green target sector.
- Press Space when the moving needle aligns inside the highlighted green zone.
Landing the pointer inside the target triggers a successful start, marked by a Great rating, which starts the engine immediately. Operating the vehicle does not consume fuel items, so hotwired vehicles can travel as far as road paths allow without hunting for gas cans.
Vehicle Controls and Decibel Management
Engines generate significant sound that registers immediately on your decibel meter at the bottom left of the screen. Sound travels quickly through the streets, causing nearby monsters to turn and sprint toward your position.
The game assigns distinct vehicle functions to key binds while seated behind the wheel:
- F: Enter or exit the vehicle
- Shift: Engage car drift around tight corners
- B: Fasten the car seat belt
- G: Toggle windshield wipers
- H: Sound the vehicle horn
Sounding the horn with H produces an immediate sound spike that alerts hostiles across wide areas. Drivers should reserve horn usage or rapid acceleration for instances where the road ahead is already clear.
Driving Strategy and Safe Extraction
A running vehicle provides speed across long roads, making it suitable for reaching far-away extraction points like The Farm Track near Sunshine Farm. Because engine noise attracts creatures from adjacent alleys, map out your driving route before starting the hotwire sequence.
Exiting a moving car causes immediate physical harm. Jumping out while the vehicle retains forward momentum triggers a red damage indicator and visibly depletes player health. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop before pressing F to step out safely at the extraction boundary.
